Purchase ‘Chilling on the Couch’ here

This week’s offering of Monday Music is rather apt for how I’m feeling – shattered. Entitled the ‘Chilling on the Couch’ LP, it’s collection of tunes designed just for that. Brought to you by Scientific Records and released 26th January this a release for those of you that enjoy depth to your tunes and in need of some chill time.

The opening track sets the vibe perfectly. All manner of FX, percussion and warming synths fill your speakers completely soothing any aches your head may have from the weekend with a progressive and fairly unorthodox composition. Mobility brings more vocals, even more progressive percussion and completely space age qualities to the continuous whirling bassline. Naibu then brings some elevation on ‘Birds Eye View’ that brings authentic melodies with the emotive FX but raw percussion.

Oscillist then brings a little more experimentation and a great blend of acoustic guitar and impactful kicks. Loving the hook on this one. ‘Flutter’ has an almost sinister introduction, one that almost sets you up to brock out. The tempo is completely switched on it’s head and given a real step to it, one for the Hip Hop lovers among you I’d imagine. Half way through now and we have LM1’s remix of ‘Space and Time’, this is the most energy you’re given since the opening. Far punchier snares come forward but the basslines are still warming and calming. Love the contrast in vibes between the fast percussion and soothing bass.

Then comes my favourite from the release, Inertia’s remix of ‘Skylinges’. A gully beat with a dark tone and subtly used industrial sounds, can imagine this in room 2 of Fabric. Back to the softer tones on ‘Tenderness’ that lets the FX and high-end percussion do all the work with floating FX from start to finish. Further experimentation is brought to the table next and some almost Eastern vibes on the sounds used before the bass given a ever so slight pick up in the penultimate track, ‘Falling Rain’. At this point my head is totally relaxed, I’ve forgotten how hectic my Monday has been and I’m ready for the finale.

That finale is brought by ‘Hiddenwave’, a constant rumble of bass, fleeting FX and ever so subtle percussion. It’s all about the depth of this track and, like every other track on offer hear, the precise use of FX. Seriously sick LP, particularly in the mood I’m in right now. Sorry for the swift break down of each track – I’m off to bed!
